Thursday — June 24, 2010Instead of going after unrelated networks like Ning or even larger blog platforms, Posterous should focus on real dying sites (like Windows Live Spaces), as the gain there may be greater than attacking a thriving community such as Ning.

Network issues on Tumblr Servers Lately
A new server rack was deployed with a misconfigured network switch, capping throughput at 100 Mbps instead of 1000 Mbps. This lead to intermittent slowness and errors over the last few hours, which has now been fixed.
So that’s the reason why Tumblr has been so slow lately.
Two Years of Tumblr = 1,400 Posts
It has been two years (well, almost!) since I posted my first entry here at Tumblr. A post that’s soliciting advice on how to do about around Tumblr.
Two years later, and now 1,400 posts since then.

A closer look?

Happy 2nd Anniversary to The Unstatement!

Opentumblr-qt 0.2 (via paran0ico).

The UnStatement Tumblr Theme
I think I’m getting tired of this theme already. I wonder who’s interested in this if I give you the code.

Without the ads of course.

The Day Disqus Missed The Spam Comments
Seth of sethsimonds.com explained why he kicked off Disqus off his blog:
3. I want solid spam filtering. Disqus has a lot of work to do to bring its filter up to Akismet’s level. I turned off “reactions” weeks ago (imported comments from FriendFeed, tweets, etc) because Disqus failed to give life only to legitimate remarks. I’m not the only one with spam issues. Disqus seems to have a lot of trouble keeping spam off their very own blog.
At first it appears Disqus is wonderful, until your blog becomes older, and some of your posts become popular. You are now officially a target for comment spammers. Here’s one example:
I posted about “Smart Bro’s HSDPA Dongle Designs for UAAP and NCAA”, and commentator posted like:
Thanks man, just what I was looking for. Worked like a charm Thanks so much…
Okay, so what’s the relevance in that? And the author link is pointing to some bogus website. By the way, I deleted the comment.

Theme designers! You can now include liked posts in your themes.
Get instructions in the Theme Docs.
See it in action on garyvaynerchuk.com and Newsweek.
Try it on your own blog with The Atlantic and Papercut themes.
I guess I want to integrate this feature into deuts.org. Thinking about having a right sidebar here.

Storytlr will stop operating on December 31st 2009
The title says it all, we have decided to stop operating Storytlr in 10 weeks, on December 31st 2009. The reason is simple: our lives have moved on, kids were born, house were bought, new projects appeared and we don’t have time anymore to operate this service properly. The Storytlr service would have otherwise been a great service. I may not have been able to fully utilize the service, but would have offered many alternatives. This is the problem with services like this without a clear monetization plan. Think about twitter, and now tumblr.
