With Rashard Lewis out for the first ten games of the regular season, head coach Stan Van Gundy has named Ryan Anderson as the starting power forward. Lewis is serving a suspension he was given in the offseason after testing positive for a banned substance.

Anderson has stepped up for the Magic, scoring 16 points in each of his first two games, both wins. He has also grabbed six rebounds and has a blocked shot. Of his 32 points, 18 have come from three point territory.

Tornado destroys 44 houses in Iloilo:

ILOILO – A tornado ripped through houses and streetlights in Pototan, Iloilo Wednesday, raising concern that local officials may declare a state of calamity in the area.

Initial reports said the tornado damaged 44 houses in Barangay Pajo in Pototan, Iloilo Wednesday afternoon. Of the 44 houses, 16 were totally destroyed while 28 were partially damaged.

Yep. I learned this from my Filipino Teacher back in high school. The reason for this: “Hindi mo pwedeng ulitin ang prefix”.

The same rule goes with the following words: Nakababagot, Nakasisindak, Nakaiirita, and etc.

Photos of Bobby Fischer’s visit to the Philippines in 1973, hosted by President Ferdinand Marcos, to open the International Chess Tournament. These came from albums that were a personal gift from Marcos himself to Fischer to commemorate his trip. Fischer abandoned a storage unit in Pasadena when he fled the United States, and these albums were part of his belongings left behind. Many of his chess memorabilia were in that storage and ended up in a local flea market in LA.
